Promoting Critical Care

Overview:

The Intensive Care department has played an active role in the development and promotion of Critical Care profession in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the region and has several contributions internationally.

Riyadh ICU Club:

The Intensive Care department has organized and coordinated the monthly Riyadh ICU Club in which critical care professionals from the City meet to present clinical issues or update in critical care.  This successful forum was the nucleus to several collaborative activities.

The Saudi Critical Care Society(SCCS):

The Intensive Care department played a key role in the establishment of the Society.  Three members of the governing board including the President of the Society came from King Abdulaziz Medical City – Intensive Care Department.  In collaboration with colleagues from other institutions in Saudi Arabia, the department plays active role in the activities of the Society in particular training and research.


Advanced Critical Care Course (ACCC):

This 3-month ICU rotation has been proposed by the ICU Department and intended for physicians working in other institutions to improve their skills in critical care.  It has been approved by KFNGH Academic Affairs and by the Ministry of Health and by the Saudi Council for Health Specialties.

Taining Critical Care Phsicians From Sudan:

Upon the directive from the Custodian of the two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz, and based on instruction of His Excellency – Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, Chief Executive Officer, National Guard Health Affairs, the Intensive Care Department started to accept trainees in Critical Care from Sudan on a 3-month rotation in the Advanced Critical Care Course (ACCC).

International Critical Care:

Members of the Intensive Care department have contributed as speakers, scientific committee members, and organizers of several critical care symposia in Dubai, Kuwait, Bahrain, Indonesia, Syria, Hong Kong, Canada, and USA.  Scientific presentations have also been given in many symposia in Europe, USA, and other countries.  Dr. Arabi is on the Steering Committee of the Fundamentals of Critical Care Support (FCCS) Course in USA and was for 6 years a member of the MKCAP).  Members of the Intensive Care department are reviewers for multiple international peer-review journals.
