Q I have been married for 1 year & 3 months; I went to a doctor 6 months ago & was told I have a cyst on the ovaries, weak ovulation & irregular menstrual cycle. After a course of treatment for 3 months consists of Clomid injections, Fostimon, Sidovaj & Aktodel; my menstrual cycle regulated and the ovulation was good. I was asked to continue treatment until I conceive. For the past couple of months I have followed the treatment plan and haven't conceived yet. I've been experiencing pain & swelling in my lower abdomen, I also have mild pain in my lower abdomen during sexual intercourse bearing in mind that I've one week onset to my menstrual cycle. I'd like to know what the cause of the pain is. Please note that my husband has mild hemorrhoids & slow sperm and he is being treated for that.
A Ovulation stimulants such as Clomid may lead to form cysts which may cause lower abdominal pain during sexual intercourse and therefore there must be follow-up by ultrasound.
As for the slow sperm motility, it maybe the main reason for the delayed pregnancy. Semen analysis is highly recommended in such cases.

Q I'm a 26 year old female, I've anemia which occurs during summer time as I lose my appetite which reduces the quantity of the meals I have to help in treating the anemia. My period usually lasts 5-6 days & my menstrual cycle occurs every 28 days. After I got married –5 months ago- I got irregular menstrual cycle which is less than it used to be & occur every 21 days & my period lasts up to 14 days most of the time which is bothering me, the shortest period I had was 8 days. I'm concerned about the length of my period which causes losing massive amount of blood & I'm afraid of developing anemia again. I'm also experiencing abdominal pain & pain in my feet & that usually occurs after a week from having the period. I'm not using any contraceptives. Is this irregular menstrual cycle normal?
A Doing a blood work up will help in knowing the reasons of the Anemia as there are many causes of it. In your case it's often iron deficiency due to the bleeding you have. I recommend that you do a hormone blood test and Transvaginal ultrasound to exclude Uterine Fibroid or hormonal causes.

Q

I have been married for a couple of years, had a miscarriage and got pregnant again, I'm one week pregnant now, after having a pregnancy test, I started to bleed on the seventh or eight day, I don't know wither its miscarriage or not, and what should I do about that? I need your help.

  A

Bleeding during pregnancy may be an indicator of abortion; blood work up could deny or confirm this possibility. Repeated miscarriage may have clear reasons for its cause and sometimes they are not clear. Therefore I recommend medical follow up with the doctor before and during the pregnancy.
