​New Device to Increase Utilization of Cochlear Implants

 
 
The Cochlear Implant Program team at King Abdul Aziz Medical City in the Ministry of National Guard- Health Affairs (MNG-HA) has achieved installing a comprehensive hearing and pronouncing test device which detects the patient's hearing and comprehension abilities beside determining the sound direction ability in an audio environment.

Head of Cochlear Implant Program and E.N.T in King Abdulaziz Medical City, Dr. Yazeed Al-Aqili said: "This device is the latest of its kind in the world. It helps audiologists to early explore difficulties faced by hearing impaired people or cochlear implants in their daily lives such as their ability to understand speech and determine sound direction in order to overcome it which affects positively on the patient to improve his/her language, interact with surrounded people and understand speech even in most difficult audio environment".

He also added, “Cochlear Implants Program at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh is the first in the Middle East and the second in the world after the cochlear implantation centers in Europe in acquiring this technique, preceding the largest cochlear implant centers in North America”.

He concluded by saying: “This interest and development in cochlear implants field is an extension of MNG-HA’s keen to obtain latest global technologies in line with the aspirations of the leadership 2030 vision in regard to meeting the citizens’ health needs".
