At the present time, there are six Labour and Delivery Rooms, plus separate rooms for assessment and induction of labour, state-of-the-art Ultrasonography machine, two operating suites and recovery areas. Expectant mothers receive nursing care from certified Midwives and specialty trained Obstetric nurses. Epidural analgesia and patient-controlled analgesia services are available for pain management. There is a fully equipped OB/GYN room in the emergency section and in the outpatient clinics.
Our neonatal services are three-tiered:
- The Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) is a ten-bed unit that provides expert nursing care for critically ill neonates from 23 weeks gestation to 40 weeks gestation. Our nurse to patient ratio is 1:2 or 1:1 for critical cases. NICU services include that latest in technological advancers overseen by an experienced neonatologist and other specialists.
- The Intermediate Care Nursery (ICN) is a 15-bed step-down unit for infants who require ongoing medical care. It is equipped to provide specific care for those infants requiring special interventions. For example: phototherapy, IV antibiotics, special feeding procedures, small for gestational age (SGA) and need to increase in weight.
- The Newborn Nursery (NBN) all normal newborns are admitted and cared for in the admissions nursery, where the essential needs of the first few hours of life are provided. These healthy newborns are transitioned to the mother/baby unit for rooming-in once their transition to extra uterine life has stabilized (usually within hours of birth)
