As a tertiary dental health care provider, the available dental specialties KADC include Pedodontics, Prosthodontics, Restorative Dentistry, Endodntics, Periodontics, Orthodontics and Maxillofacial Surgery.
KADC top priority is to provide primary dental care to National Guard personnel and their dependents through the various primary health care centers throughout the Central Region. KADC also provides emergency tertiary dental care for in-patients as well as patients in the main hospital’s Emergency Room. Additionally, KADC is providing routine and tertiary dental public health care for the medically compromised patients (MCP). An active program in dental public health care has been put in motion by giving preventive dental health care among children and by raising the level of dental health awareness among the National Guard population. Four brand new and sophisticated dental mobile vans with two dental chairs per van are being utilized to compliment this program.
A state of the art Dental Laboratory is also housed at the King Abdulaziz Dental Center (KADC). The laboratory deals with the design, fabrication and repair of artificial dental restorations. Dental devices prepared in the laboratory include crowns, prosthesis, maxillofacial prosthesis, dental bridges and other dental appliances according to dentist’s specifications. Laboratory training programs are also provided to NGHA’s Saudi Career Development Program (SCDP) participants, technology interns and summer training students.
Other dental supports which are essential and important contributors to the successful and comprehensive dental services are the Dental Hygienists and Dental Assistants. We are proud of our Saudization process as 96% of our dentists are Saudi while 23% of our support staff is Saudi.
In the academic front, we are providing advance training to young dentists through our Advance Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) Program. We are also participating in the Saudi Council Programs such as Saudi Specialists Certificate in Advance Restorative Dentistry [SSDDent (ARD)], Saudi Specialists Certificate in Orthodontics [SSD-Dent (Ortho)] and Saudi Specialists Certificate in Prosthodontics [SSC-Dent (Pedo)]. Recently, we extended our participations by providing Saudi Specialists Certificate in Endodontics [SSC-Dent (Endo)].
KADC has set its sight also on Continuing Education by providing seminars, lectures and workshops presented by both local and international speakers. Under the auspices of NGHA, KADC successfully launched its first ever Dental International Symposium entitled New Dental Era on January 2006 at the Marriot Hotel in Riyadh. Schedules are now in place for other future Continuing Education events.
