Clinical Engineering Department

Mission and Objectives:

The mission of the clinical Engineering Department is to manage the patient care technology of Al Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal Hospital and PHC. To perform high standard maintenance program for safety, efficient and effective applications, and to manage risks associated with the equipment use. This is in accordance with NGHA policies and JCIA standards. To support and enhance Services to support and enhance patient care by providing exemplary management and service of medical technology, and by instituting and implementing programs to ensure its safe and effective clinical use.

  • The Clinical Engineering Services maintains an up-to-date medical equipment management plan that includes:
    • Participating in the selection, evaluation and acquisition of safe and effective medical equipment, and acceptance testing of all new medical equipment of IAF Hospital and Dammam PHCC.
    • Maintaining an inventory of medical equipment at IAF Hospital and Dammam PHCC.
    • Monitoring and reviewing all medical equipment – related hazard notices and recalls received by the hospital or outside institutes 
    • Providing maintenance for the equipment in the inventory, including inspection and preventive maintenance program for selected equipment in the inventory
  • The Clinical Engineering Services monitors the effectiveness of the implementation of its medical equipment management plan by:
  • Clinical Engineering has to establish and solidify the relationship and improve communication with the end user department to improve the safety of using medical equipment.
  • Clinical Engineering begins to develop a framework for the delivery and credentialing of continuing education courses for the professions.

Acheivement: 

  • Clinical Engineering improved education services provided to medical equipment user.
  • Provides equipment in-service Training to new staff as apart of general nursing orientation.
  • Clinical Engineering reduces the service without affecting service quality by means of:
    • Decreasing the number of full service contracts.
    • Decreasing the level of spare parts stocks by Initiating Spare Parts on Demands Contracts.
