Introduction: The Social Services Department help patients and their families cope with the challenges and problems caused by illness or life changes or in cases of difficult reaction to illness, disabilities, death and handicap.
The Social Services Department carries out the following responsibilities:
- Assists the health care team involved in patients’ treatment plan by solving social problems, such as work related problems, marital problems and other problems that may interfere with the care of the patient.
- Assists patients in obtaining necessary medical equipment such as wheelchairs.
- Provides a liaison, a good relationship and help to improve communication between patients and hospital staff.
- Coordinates and participates in the discharge of planning services, which includes information, referral, and community liaison services.
- Discharges long-term patients either through their home or alternatively appropriate facility.
- Refers patients who need placement or financial aid to the appropriate agency such as the Ministry of Social Work or Patients’ Friends Committee.
- Assess patients’ socio-economic situation and try to assist them according to their needs.
- Assists patients in adjusting to illness or disability.
- Make daily rounds on assigned areas.
- Assists in making an accurate assessment of the post-hospital care that the patient will need.
- Counsels and convinces patients not to leave the hospital against medical advice.
- Counsels patients that refuse admission.
- Authorizes sitters for social reasons.
- Authorizes breastfeeding and visitors gate passes.
- Attends continuing education program.
- Participates in orientation program and attends continued education and training from university.
- Performs any other duties as directed or assigned.

- Social Services needs more staff to cover hospital population.
Bed Capacity: Most In-patient beds are received Social Services care.
Statistical Data: The annual in-patient& Out-patient statistics were 10911 on 2010.

- Social Services Department was established since the first year that hospital projected opening.
- The Social Services Department had been participating in many educational events in and out of the National Guard Health Affairs.
- Attended Courses that improve social workers performance.
- Participated and attended clinical service III performance improvement team meetings.
- Participated and attended Quality and Patient Safety meetings.
- Participated and attended Health Education Committee meetings
- Participated and attended Journal Club Committee meetings.
- Participated and attended Patient Complaint Committee meetings
- Attended the Children Sexual Harassment Training Course by Ministry of Health for two days 27 and 28 March.
- Attended National Family Protection Program Registry Workshop.
- Giving lectures for in patients.
