Objectives

  •  To maintain the laboratory budget according to the approved budgetary allocation, while maintaining high standards and quality service.
  • To improve and consolidate approved structural changes to affect expansion of the Anatomic Pathology section and accommodate the new services needed for the Bone Marrow Transplantation.  
  • To continue to develop an awareness of and monitor the appropriate laboratory utilization by medical staff. 
  • To maintain the accreditation standards of the College of American Pathologists, American Association of Blood Banks (AABB) and Joint Commissions International.
  • To upgrade the Laboratory Information System to comply with the forthcoming new clinical information system and affect the electronic ordering system of laboratory investigations.
  • To ensure efficient cost-effective use of instrumentation and reagents within the laboratory and acquisition of the latest technology in accordance with the NGHA philosophy of standardization and technology procurement, towards full laboratory automation where appropriate.   
  • To facilitate phased Saudization within the Department through the Saudi Career Development Program for Medical Technologists and secure scholarships for MSc, clinically and service-oriented PhD, while encouraging staff to pursue ASCP certification in their respective areas.
  • To maintain a well-planned Continuous Education Program for the Saudi technologists and pursue postgraduate qualifications in laboratory areas to ensure a pool of senior Saudi Technologists who will ultimately oversee the technical supervision in all areas of the laboratory.
  • To recruit high caliber Saudi medical residents to pursue overseas training in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
  • To install the Pneumatic tube system to improve the transport of materials for laboratory, pharmacy and medical records. 
  • Commissioning of Bone Marrow Transplantation Laboratory.
  • To establish a state of the art HLA laboratory to support the BMT and Renal Transplant programs.
  • To expand the Molecular Biology Unit and develop Molecular Pathology Laboratory.
  • To submit commissioning report on relocation of the new laboratory building (5000 – 8000 m2)
