I would like to welcome you to the Department of Surgery’s website. This aim of this webpage is to be an interactive, informative and updated source for all the National Guard health services.
The Department of Surgery at King Khalid National Guard Hospital (KKNGH), King Abdulaziz Medical City-Western Region (KAMC – WR) provides high quality secondary and tertiary care to all surgical patients who are eligible for treatment in the hospital. The care is provided humanely and in a way to achieve maximal productivity and cost effectiveness.
The Department is made up of nine surgical sections. Within each section, subspecialization is encouraged and is already practiced in a number of sections. Overall, our department is staffed by highly qualified and able staff including 49 full-time consultants, 6 part-time consultants, 10 Associate Consultants, 16 Assistant Consultants, 15 Staff Physicians, 43 Residents, 4 Speech Pathologists, 1 Audiologists and 4 Optometrists. In addition the department has 11 scholars training abroad.
The department uses its clinical and manpower resources to support postgraduate training in the hospital and in the Western Region. We are already participating in nine surgical residency training programs (RTP) which are: general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, urology, ENT, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, oral and maxillofacial surgery, pediatric surgery and plastic surgery. The department also supports educational activities within the hospital and in national and international meetings. In addition we aim to make research a corner stone of this department academic goals.
