Heat cramps
Last Update: 26 Mar 2011 09:50 AM
Heat cramps often affect the muscle of the calves and arms. They typically take place when exercising heavily in a hot atmosphere and are painful, uncontrolled muscle spasms which can be prolonged. Low fluid intake can sometimes help to cause heat cramps.

What to do when suspecting heat cramps?
  • Rest briefly.
  • Cool down by drinking water with a teaspoon of salt, juice or an electrolyte-containing sports drink.
  • Perform moderate stretching and gently massage the affected muscles.
  • If the cramps continue for over an hour seek medical help.
