Robotic-Assisted Knee Replacement in Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal Hospital
A surgical medical team at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal Hospital in Dammam succeeded in Robotic-Assisted Knee Replacement surgery as the first hospital to use this modern technology in the Eastern Province.
The Regional Executive Director of the Ministry of National Guard -Health Affairs in the Eastern Region, Dr. Ahmad Al Arfaj pointed out: “This achievement is part of a series of achievements made by the Ministry of National Guard - Health Affairs and it shows the Kingdom's great medical development.
For his part, Orthopedic Surgeon and Head Of Surgery Department at Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal Hospital, Dr. Khalid Al-Asiri said: "the robotic-assisted technology was successfully used in two knee replacement
surgeries," adding that " robotic-assisted technology gives the surgeon high accuracy in determining the sizes of the joints, adjusting alignments, balancing the knee dynamic, thus reflecting on a better post-operative outcome such as fast recovery, less pain, improved joint mobility, bringing the knee to full, as well as prolonging the life of the new joint''.
Dr. Al-Asiri also explained that "the Department of Orthopedics in the hospital is one of the advanced centers in joint surgery, as the department is successfully doing many joints operations, ranging from simple and complex surgeries, to reviewing the combined joints and a complete joints restoration, and the new technology will transport the department to an internationally accredited specialist center in joint surgery ”.
