Successful Bladder Fistula Repair
A medical team in the Department of Urology Surgery at King Abdulaziz Medical City - Riyadh has succeeded in performing a fistula repair operation between the vagina and the bladder for a Saudi woman who had a previous hysterectomy.
A medical team headed by Consultant and Head Division, Reconstructive Female Pelvic Surgery & Urogynecology Dr Saeed Alsary performed the surgery.
Dr. Alsary mentioned that the patient, who is in her fourth decade of life, was suffering from urinary incontinence due to the fistula, which had a severe negative impact on the patient's health and psychological life and prevented her from working, which forced her to visit the emergency department in King Abdulaziz Medical City -Riyadh, where she was transferred to the Division of Reconstructive Female Pelvic Surgery & Urogynecology, and she underwent the necessary medical examinations.
Then, the medical team performed the fistula repair operation by means of laparoscopic, in order to avoid opening the abdomen.
Dr. Al-Sari stated that the operation was successful, and the patient left King Abdulaziz Medical City in good health two days after the operation, with a urinary catheter in place for three weeks, after which it was confirmed that the fistula had healed.
