Introduction:

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy, or Physical Therapy, is a Healthcare profession concerned with the assessment, maintenance, and restoration of the physical function and performance of the body by physical means such as heat, cold, electricity and therapeutic exercises. In addition, it is an art interact to improve health and to prevent injury via understanding the movement of the body, which consist of evaluation and treatment to decrease pain with correction of the affected parts.

Physiotherapy can be useful in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of injuries, disease processes, and other conditions, including:

 
  • sports injuries
  • back and neck pain
  • postural problems 
  • arthritis
  • amputee rehabilitation
  • spinal cord injuries
  • chronic airways disease
  • rehabilitation following cardiac surgery ​
  • stroke rehabilitation 
  • developmental and pediatric problems
  • neurological conditions
  • impaired mobility
  • women's health
  • incontinence
  • geriatric problems
  • specific children's conditions​

Physiotherapy can help individuals by:

  • Identifying the problem area and treating this directly.
  • Identifying the causes and predisposing factors.
  • Providing Rehabilitation following occupational or sporting injuries.
  • Providing rehabilitation and exercise before and after surgery.
  • Providing advice on exercise programs.
  • Providing or advising on special equipment.

Our mission in the department to provide physiotherapy services to the Saudi Arabian National Guard employee, their families and any other person as authorized. The service provided will meet established standards of clinical practice and comply with organization statement of mission.

Physiotherapy objectives:

  • To provide the quality management.
  • To provide a high level of patient care.
  • To promote patient health awareness and education.
  • To facilitate saudization program.
  • To provide accessible rehabilitation services.
  • Effective utilization of staff resources.
  • To develop staff orientation training and education.
  • Provide training program for physiotherapist student.

Physiotherapy Divisions:

  • In – Patient:
    Inpatient expectation from physiotherapy services:
    All inpatients who are based on wards are eligible to have physiotherapy services. If a new patient requires assessment and treatment, physiotherapy will cover during the work hours (From 08:00 to 17:00). Moreover, it covers the weekend or holidays for inpatients as needed. In addition, the ward nurses can contact the on-call physiotherapists outside these hours as necessary.
  • Out – Patient:
    The services can be obtained to all patients who are admitted to the hospital or the clinic for the treatment that do not require an overnight stay and eligible such as National Guard  Employees, and their families and other person as authorized.

Bed Capacity:

Physiotherapy department has 4 treatment rooms which have one bed in each room and one gymnasium has 3 beds. All these beds can be used for treating patients mainly as an out-patient clinic.

Achievements:

The physiotherapy department has achieved lots since we opened the department in May 2003 till 2010 such as:

  • Creation and modification of the Department Policy & Procedure (DPP).
  • The department has organized very effective physiotherapy workshops with attendance of all physiotherapy staff as well as outside participants as:
    • Patellar Femoral Joint Assessment Workshop
    • Mulligan Concept Course for Treating the Cervical & Upper Extremities.
    • Palm Technique Training Course from Chinese Medicine
    • Soft Tissue Release Therapy Workshop
  • The department passed the JCIA during the period of 2006 and 2009
  • The department usually does Annual Patient Satisfaction Survey
  • The department has trained students from King Saud & Dammam Universities during their internship years.
  • The department usually performs a Safe Lifting Presentation and Practical Part for all new and re-contracts nursing staff in a monthly basis by physiotherapy staff.
  • The department’s staffs perform On-Call duties during weekend as necessary.
  • The physiotherapy department staff participated actively on the following hospital activities:
    • The Spina Befida Awareness week at PHC & IABFH during the month of May.
    • The Brest Feeding Awareness Day at PHC & IABFH during the month of May.
    • Health and Beauty Exhibition days for 3 days in Al Khobar city during Oct.
  • The department has done Hand Hygiene Monthly Survey for all physiotherapy staff.

Location:

The department is located in the South-East part of the hospital building just beside the department of Medical Imaging.

It is ease to reach the department from Out-Patient Clinic Gate.
