Nursing Services - KASCH

The King Abdullah Specialized Children's Hospital is a 600 bedded with specialized services hospital serving MNGHA located in Riyadh. It services as centre of excellence for pediatric and oncology/hematology patients referred from other regions. Works collaboratively with other international agencies such as Jenner Institute Oxford and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

Our progressive team has successfully advanced nursing through a collaborative programs of training and support in areas such as Pediatrics, Stem Cell Transplant, Oncology, Research and Emergency.

ACC is subdivided into pediatric and adult services along with a separate department to treat adult and pediatric hematology and oncology patients. Seeing an average of 25,000 patients per month.

Pediatric Emergency seeing an average of 15,000 patients per month.

Pediatric In-Patient, PICU, Adult and Pediatric Oncology (gyne/onc) and Hematology inpatient services.

OR services with an emphasis upon exemplary performance with same day surgeries to reduce overall length of stay of patients.

Day care services have been introduced to reduce waiting list and unnecessary admissions.

A Clinical Drug Trial Unit for first in human trials has been commissioned to participate in unique clinical trials such as MERS-Cov Vaccine.

We have successfully presented at both National and International forums and have a series of collaboratively produces publications in bespoke journals such as BMJ and American Journal of Research in Nursing.

Scope of Services

Pediatric In-Patient Services:

The department of pediatric services in King Abdullah Specialized Children Hospital (KASCH) has emerged as a distinct medical, surgical and organ transplant specialized children center since its commissioning in April 2015. A state of art building equipped with latest versions of medical equipment to provide highest reliable quality patient care. The department is aimed at giving access to an unprecedented scope of pediatric services for all children under 14 years. The physical and psychological atmosphere of all pediatric inpatient units encourages play and education. Our department launched NO HIT ZONE Programme aimed at supporting our families and their kids.

The inspired multidisciplinary pediatric team is led by a team of Chairmen for Pediatric Care and Nursing Services. The inpatient facilities shelter all levels of patient acuity across a large healthcare system and a fast growing in-patients care services. The team maximize and support research and this has positive impact on lives of Metabolic and Genetic Patients and this has led to approval of Genetic and Precision Medicine.

A highly competitive department with strategic influence pioneering the best Paediatric hospital .It provides a training and education for fellows, residents and interns for medical, nursing and other multi-disciplinary teams. The hunger for highest level of skills and knowledge resulted in commissioning of Pediatric Simulation Laboratory. The department has also launched Paediatric Rapid Response Team successfully and together with PEWS program, we have a robust system to render safe care to our most vulnerable patients.

Since its inception, pediatric department has fostered more advanced specialties and subspecialties and the most recent subspecialty is Pediatric Advanced Complex Care.

Surgical Care & Cssd:

The Surgical Care in KASCH conducting a multiple surgical procedures with specialized equipment and latest technology.

By utilizing advanced medical equipment along with numbers of excellent medical practitioners, we are able to conduct complicated surgeries including 'conjoined twin operations'. Up to the present time, over fifty (50) sets of conjoined twins have been separated with excellent level of success.

The Surgical Care directorate has a total of 14 operating room in KASCH, according to our statistics we conduct an average of 500 patients a month and over 6000 patients a year.

The Central Sterile Services department is under Surgical care which provides sterilization to KASCH and Primary Care Centers.

Specialized service such as Nursing Shift Supervisors is reporting to Surgical Care in KASCH.

Emergency Care Center:

The Department of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital opened in April 2015. A unique flag-ship department designed to receive and treat all pediatric emergency patients. The multi-disciplinary team is led by Chairman of Pediatric Emergency Medicine. Rapid assessment and the delivery of exemplary treatment and care are central to the ethos of the department.

Strong medical and nursing leadership works in unison to strive to attain the highest standards of care for our young patients. The department's profile includes significant contributions to patient centered care, research and education. Many members of the clinical leadership team are part of the faculty of the Deanery of Medicine and provide supervisory training and educational support for Saudi Commission fellows, residents and interns from various sub-specialties.

The new department has already experienced a 30 % increase in attendance since the opening of phase one. There is an estimated 100,000 patients seen annually which means that efficient assessment, planning and treatment is fundamentally important to expediting the patient's journey and supporting safe patient flow within the department.

Ambulatory Care Center:

Outpatient Services at King Abdullah Specialized Children Hospital (KASCH) is a leading tertiary referral center. The service was relocated in April 2015 to a state of the art building and was equipped with the latest versions of Medical equipment to provide the highest quality of patient care.

The multidisciplinary healthcare teams are privileged to care for the most complex pediatric outpatient conditions. The service covers Outpatient settings.

Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) has approximately 178 Nursing and 45 Non-Nursing staff to facilitate the delivery of patient care.

Oncology/Hematology & Specialized Services:

The Department of Oncology/Hematology and Specialized Services in King Abdullah Specialized Children's Hospital opened in April 2015. Whereby, the initial service provided is for Pediatric Hematology and Oncology. This service is designed to receive and treat all pediatric oncology and hematology patients (including benign hematology). The multi-disciplinary team is led by the Chairman of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology for patients under 14 years. The delivery of exemplary treatment and care is central to the ethos of the department.

In October 2015, the Adult Oncology opened and provided the following services, Hematology, Stem Cell Transplant (SCT), Medical Oncology, Gynecology , Palliative Care and Radiation Oncology for adults and includes adult intensive care and critical care rapid response.

After a few months, the Hepatobiliary and Organ Transplant which is a multidisciplinary team providing both medical and surgical care to adult patients for a range of conditions. This includes liver and kidney failure as well as a range of other hematological and diseases. In addition to conservative medical management the team also offers cadaveric transplants for liver and renal as well as living related and matched unrelated. The team works closely with SCOT (Saudi Centre for Organ Transplant).
