Excellence Milestones

2022

  • The Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs (MNGHA) is the first healthcare organization in the world to have achieved Quadruple HIMSS Stage 7 validation. Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs - King Abdulaziz Medical City Riyadh in Saudi Arabia has successfully validated Stage 7 on INFRAM, making it the only organization worldwide with four Stage 7 achievements. King Abdulaziz Medical City Riyadh is a multi-award-winning hospital that has previously been recognized as EMRAM Stage 7, OEMRAM Stage 7, AMAM Stage 7, DIAM Stage 6, and INFRAM Stage 6. The recent successful INFRAM Stage 7 validation has given them the first quadruple HIMSS Stage 7 title, making them the most digitized hospital system in the Middle East.
  • The Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs has achieved the HIMSS Infrastructure Adoption Model (INFRAM) - Stage 7 on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 AD 10 Shawwal 1443 AH, being the second organization in the world to achieve this high-level of IT infrastructure maturity in healthcare. This accreditation signifies the commitment of the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs to apply the best practices with regard to IT Infrastructure in terms of data networks, wireless networks, communications, collaborations, cyber security and data center.
  • In a major breakthrough, the stem cell transplantation program at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh received the quality accreditation of the international organization FACT (Foundation for The Accreditation of Cellular Therapy) in July 2022. This recognition includes the stem cell transplantation program (adult and children stem cell transplantation), the peripheral or bone marrow stem cell collection center, and the stem cells processing at the center's advanced laboratories.
  • King Abdulaziz Cardiac Center has achieved full accreditation of its Cath Lab as a center of excellence by the American College of Cardiology. This achievement comes as a natural result of the highly developed cardiac sciences at MNGHA.
  • The Ministry of National Guards Health Affairs hospital in Madinah, Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Hospital, has achieved a new national accomplishment by obtaining the accreditation of the Saudi Center for Medical Laboratories ISO 15189 as the first medical laboratory within the Kingdom to be accredited in the government sector. This accreditation is concerned with conformity assessment to clarify the requirements of medical laboratories' accreditation to validate their services and improve their ability to provide accurate and guaranteed results in addition to verifying their technical efficiency, which is the primary criterion for medical laboratories at the international accreditation bodies. It also contributes to exchanging laboratory results between different authorities.

2021

  • Considered the first of its kind in the Middle East and a rare case globally, two heart transplants were successfully performed for two siblings. They were on a mechanical heart pump (Berlin Heart) at the same time for several months until the appropriate heart organ was available. And then the heart transplant, which was done Successfully, praise be to God, in King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh within the National Guard Health Affairs Program for Heart Transplantation.
  • Primary Health Care Center - Dirab is recognized as a baby-friendly community center.
  • King Faisal Cardiac Center, at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Jeddah, participated in the recent international conference on the latest developments in interventional cardiac catheterization. This conference is considered one of the largest medical events organized by the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions worldwide, in terms of number of participants and speakers. King Faisal Cardiac Center is the first center from outside the United States chosen by SCAI to participate in the international Conference.
  • King Faisal Cardiac Center, at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Jeddah, participated with a live-streaming from the cardiac catheterization lab in the Gulf Cardiac Interventional Catheterization Conference held in Dubai, sponsored by the Gulf Cardiac Catheterization Society. This participation was in light of choosing King Faisal Cardiac Center to represent the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in this Gulf medical event.

2020

  • PMBAH Obtains the American College CAP Accreditation.
  • Launched the expansion project of Al Madinah Primary Healthcare and Family Medicine Center.
  • MNGHA amongst the Top 15 Government Agencies in the Maturity Index of E-Government Services.
  • KAMC-Jeddah has afforded the latest version of the robot (da Vinci) as a first of its kind in the Middle East.
  • PNOC succeeded in completing 64 Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant.
  • In line with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's efforts to fight the Covid_19 pandemic, MNGHA has dedicated a specialized Covid-19 screening and treatment center in Khashmalaan, Riyadh.
  • Launched the project of Artificial Intelligence Application to Improve Healthcare Services.
  • Adult Mental Health initiatives during COVID19 pandemic.
  • MNGHA has developed and launched an Enterprise Critical Lab Results Notification System (Takeed).
  • In a scientific initiative, KAMC-Jeddah was selected by the International Academy of Cytology (IAC) for the Board Examination for physicians and medical laboratory specialists.
  • Laboratory Information System (LIS) is a new project during MNGHA digital transformation journey.
  • PMBAH- Al Madinah successfully conducts an Implantable Hearing Aid Surgery.

2019

  • Bone Marrow Transplant Program in PNOC opened in March 2014. As of December 2019, PNOC has achieved treating over 175 cases.
  • The 6th CAP Accreditation for King Abdulaziz Hospital - Al Ahsa Laboratories on 21 March 2019.
  • Opening of Autonomic Laboratory Unit at KAMC-Jeddah on 27 March 2019.
  • HIMSS INFRAM Stage 6 on 07 July 2019 in Riyadh
  • HIMSS Outpatient-EMRAM Stage 7 on 08 July 2019 in Riyadh.
  • MNGHA Amongst the Top 15 Government Agencies in the Maturity Index of E-Government Services on 2nd quarter of 2019.
  • Full Institutional Accreditation by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCFHS) in 2019 for Riyadh, Jeddah.
  • King Faisal Cardiac Center (KFCC) in Jeddah was appreciated for the outstanding contribution to the International Conference for Intervention for Structural Heart Disease (PICS-AICS 2019) in the United States of America - San Diego on 19 September 2019.
  • Successful separation of Libyan Conjoined Twins (Muhammad and Ahmed) on Sunday 14 November 2019.
  • Imam Abdulrahman bin Faisal Hospital in Dammam succeeded in Robotic-Assisted Knee Replacement surgery as the first hospital to use this modern technology in the Eastern Province on 28 November 2019.
  • Launched the New Emergency Coding System and the Unified Emergency Number (911 ) effective 04 December 2019 in PMBAH.

2018

  • MNGHA Care Mobile Application in KAMC-CR on March 2018.
  • Patient Referrals from Family Medicine and PHC to KAMC-CR using BESTCare System in May 2018.
  • PMBAH Al Madinah Laboratories amongst World Elite American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) Accredited Organizations on September 2018.
  • E-Registration Nursing Education Course System in KAMC-CR on 18 October 2018.
  • Successful separation of Saudi Conjoined Twins (Shikhah and Shemoukh) in KAMC-CR on 25 October 2018.
  • Launched one of the Nursing Quality Improvement Projects, IV Cost Reduction, in KASCH, MNGHA Central Region on 28 November 2018.
  • Successful separation of Tanzanian Conjoined Twins (Aneisa and Melenes) on Sunday 23 December 2018.
  • Achieved HIMSS O-EMRAM Stage 6.

2017

  • Establishment of Command Center to receive calls concerning any delay of patient care.
  • Operation of the Advanced Cardiac Imaging Center.
  • First in the world to achieve DIAM Stage 6 as the International benchmark for Advance Digitization in Imaging IT to improve patient care.
  • ISID has completed the development and operation of a system for ordering blood units through an electronic health system in all health laboratories of MNGHA.
  • PNOC in Jeddah succeeded in completing 64 Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant.
  • Launched of Cardiac Care Unit (CCU) in Al Madinah with a capacity of 10 beds.
  • Launched of Biochemical Molecular Genetics Laboratory Services.

  • BESTCare has successfully gone live in King Abdullah Specialist Children's Hospital and King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh in January 2016.
  • BESTCare Go-Live in King Abdulaziz Medical City, Jeddah in May 2016.
  • BESTCare Go-Live took place in Prince Mohammed Bin Abdul Aziz Hospital, Al Madinah, in August 2016.
  • BESTCare Go-Live in King Abdulaziz Hospital, Al Ahsa and Imam Abdulrahman Bin Faisal Hospital, Dammam, in December 2016.

2012

  • Postgraduate Training Center and the Advanced Life Support for Obstetrics (ALSO) — KSA Program was awarded as the 'First International Center of Excellence' in ALSO Program globally, a recognition outside the United States of America given by the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP).
  • Primary Health Care Center Arar was recognized and awarded by the Baby-Friendly Community Initiative (UCH, an International Program of the World Health Organization (WHO), and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) as a "BABY FRIENDLY CENTER."

2011

  • Established the Suleiman Abdulaziz AI-Rajhi Surgical Trauma Center.
  • Established and licensed The Association for Professionals in Infection Control (APIC) — Saudi Arabia Chapter.
  • The American Heart Association (AHA) recognized the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs as a regional center.
  • Ministry of National Guard - International Life Support Training Center (MNGHA-ILSTC), Postgraduate Training Center was recognized as a center of excellence in offering quality CME and life support courses for MNGHA staff and other healthcare providers across the Kingdom.

2010

  • Initiated 38 hospital-based Child Protection Centers throughout the Kingdom.
  • Produced highly specific and effective monovalent, bivalent, and polyvalent antivenoms to various snakes and scorpions.
  • King Abdulaziz Hospital in Al Ahsa is recognized as a baby-friendly hospital.
  • Primary Health Care Center Al Ahsa is recognized as a baby-friendly community center.

2009

  • Selected by WHO to be a testing site for H1N1 virus (SWINE FLU) and became World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Infection Prevention and Control.
  • CAP Re-accreditation.
  • Introduced the Safety Reporting System (SRS).
  • Separation of five sets of conjoined twins.

2006

  • Passed the JCI Accreditation requirements for the first time.

2005

  • Became GCC Center for Infection Prevention Control.
  • Established the College of Public Health and Health Informatics, the first college specializing within the Kingdom and the Gulf Region.
  • Established the National Family Safety Program to prevent child abuse and domestic violence in the Kingdom.

2004

  • Performed the first Berlin LVAD mechanical heart implantation by King Abdulaziz Cardiac Center. The first implant procedure using this device at MNGHA and in the entire Middle East.
  • Inaugurated and implemented the International Health Information Systems by Misys Corporation on 29/09/2004.

2002

  • Established the College of Nursing, formerly known as College of Nursing and Allied Medical Sciences-CNAMS.
  • Established the College of Medicine that served as the foundation of the KAMC Academy for Health Sciences, which was later on launched as a full-fledged University.
  • Successful separation of conjoined twins. As a result, the MNGHA received the Award of King Abdul-Aziz First Degree Medal.

    • Established the Professional Development (PDP) for Saudi Nurses.
  • 1996

    • Started the National Guard Health Affairs self –Operation Program.

    • Established the in-Vitro fertilization (IVF) unit.
