The Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs hosted a training program for leading global centers specializing in gene therapy. The program aimed to showcase the best medical and regulatory practices available at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh, particularly in the use of the gene therapy “Casgevy" through CRISPR gene-editing technology and stem cell transplantation for the treatment of hereditary blood disorders.
The program brought together 30 experts and healthcare professionals from various specialties, representing 14 medical centers both from within the Kingdom and abroad, including participants from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Germany.
The program featured interactive sessions and rich scientific discussions that covered best practices in treating genetic blood disorders such as sickle cell disease and thalassemia, in addition to exploring modern therapeutic approaches aimed at delivering comprehensive and sustainable healthcare.
This program reflects the vital role of the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs in advancing excellence in gene therapy and stem cell transplantation, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to medical education, innovation, and the treatment of rare diseases.
