Nephrology
Mission Statement and Objectives
Renal section is serving dialysis, inpatient as well as outpatient clinics. Currently, three full time Consultant Nephrologists run the section aided by part-time availability by Departmental Chair for Academic activities and backup coverage. The section of Nephrology is responsible for providing patient care, training for Residents in Saudi board, Interns and Medical Students. One of the section’s missions is to initiate clinical research setup, and for Renal Physicians and Medical trainees to be involved in these activities as a part of their training.
All the activities in the Section of Nephrology are in conjunction with the King Khalid National Guard Hospital regulations and the Department of Internal Medicine to help provide the optimum care for patients and training for young Saudi Physicians.
The Nephrology section serves the patients who are admitted from the dialysis unit, emergency room and outpatient clinic. Clinical Nephrology is serving Consultation to hospital inpatients with variable degree of renal impairment, encourage consultations and subsequent referral for outpatient follow up to help take measures to prevent renal function progression as a secondary preventive measures, including early advice to create AV-fistula and erythropoitine initiation. All those measure, including early advice to create AV-fistula and erythropoietin initiation are proved to help minimizing national health cost in ESRD and PRE-ESRD care surveys.
Also the renal section helps to provide outpatient follow-up for patients on CAPD and CCPD on a monthly basis in Peritoneal Dialysis Clinic, located in Clinic One area, which is held every Wednesday afternoon.
