Rheumatology has excelled in the area of research, education and patient care, as they continue to provide comprehensive evaluation and management of patients with spectrum of inflammatory disease. The section is committed to provide outstanding medical care for rheumatological diseases in the most compassionate way.

The service has advanced therapeutic modalities for MSK diseases like RA, SLE, spondyloarthopadies. These medications are DMARDS, Biologic like Infliximab and Etanerecept, Rutuximab, etc.

Day case facilities are available for patient scheduled for biological drug infusion.

The Rheumatology section provides seven outpatient clinics, and emergency consultation for 24 hours all over the week. All new patients with a systemic rheumatic disease (e.g., RA, SLE, AS) are treated and managed appropriate in the OPD. All residents rotating in the section have the chance to see and manage all these patients.

Fellowship programme of Saudi Board has been accredited last year and one fellow has joined the program.

The section is active in conducting research and currently involved in International Multicenter clinical trial of Toclizumab therapy in RA patients.

The Rheumatology section had a strong and a very productive year.

  • A new initiative to improve the service was undertaken. The section staff members provide educational experience for rotating residents and fellows.
  • The section continued a robust inpatient and outpatient practice that resulted in a year of rapid growth and development in all areas.
  • Our areas of clinical expertise include the treatment of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Sjögren’s syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory muscle diseases and common arthritic problems, such as osteoarthritis, Fibromyalgia and osteoporosis.
  • We deliver personalized care to each of our patients who benefit from the most recent diagnostic and therapeutic care of rheumatic diseases.
  • The Section of Rheumatology contributes in the teaching of medical students in COM-J, as PBL curriculum: two of the rheumatology section consultants have now joined COM-J as staff members in the university.
  • The Section of Rheumatology is committed to provide outstanding medical care for rheumatological diseases in the most compassionate way in an environment enriched by teaching and research with good cooperation between all staffs in the section of rheumatology.​
